@kjady Same! Actually my commute is about 3x longer, having to go down a flight of stairs, but I won’t quibble about a number that’s shorter than even getting to my car
When I worked full time (as a Computer Hardware tech) I drove my car to the different locations that had computer that had been Broken by someone else, “Not” by the user!
I hope that people that buy this Hoverboard aren’t seeing you soon in the ER… I don’t think they are safe, and as far as catching fire, I wouldn’t trust that either. A Neighbor’s garage caught on fire as he left RC car batteries plugged in to charge. Lucky he was home and caught it. Had to move out for a few months so their home could be repaired. Lucky they were able to repair, Not Replace. Beware of rechargeable batteries. And if the Fire Dept had gone to the Garage instead of the front door, they would have had less to repair…
@Mandamm
There’s definitly a learning curve bc as soon as you step on them they go so your balance has to be spot on and you have to be ready to go. I’ve only tried once but fell a few times before I gave up. My neighbor has one and is really good at it, he rides around the whole neighborhood.
@Mandamm Rechargeable batteries in general are not an issue. It’s volatile lithium polymer cells, when poorly made and/or improperly charged and maintained, that cause severe problems. See also: Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
But when I did, I drove my own car. Likely what I’ll do when I go back to work, too. Been a stay at home mom for >8 years. Though I’m hoping I find a job where my transportation to / from work is walking to the computer at home
I’m retired from my job, but there is plenty of work waiting for me on the 30 acres right outside my door.
(Today I get to deal with having the septic tank pumped. Woo hoo! )
@yakkoTDI Plenty of shit, actually. But the pros did most of it.
Turns out I had to preside over not only the pumping of my own tank, but then drive over to MIL’s and deal with that one too. That’s a lot of shit (1100 gallons, total), but at least now it is done for years to come.
@DocJRoberts I wish we had better public transportation in my city. I always use public transportation when I travel to places that have efficient systems.
@DocJRoberts Years ago at a previous job I tried to figure out if I could take a bus to get to work and back home. Based on the schedules I would be spending about 7 hours on the bus to work a 2 hour shift.
I could be considered retired (I like to think I’m unemployable at the moment) but I do odd jobs via public transportation, carpooling, Amtrak, and sometimes even hitchhiking.
I get to work at my own pace.
@yakkoTDI I love that answer!
same
I walk approximately 10 steps to the office next to my bedroom. Mentally that’s a different story.

I’m retired but used to go by car.
Walk to the office and get on the information superhighway

Get to work!?
/youtube Inconceivable
While technically retired, I still work PRN/occasionally in our local ER…which is a less than 5 minute drive from here.

Why is “walk” not in the list?
I don’t.

I’m happily retired, so no longer have to worry about this.
Retired now.
Walk down the stairs (I work from home). When I do have to go to the office, I drive the 50 miles, natch.

@macromeh No shit? What a fun day you have ahead of you.

Work from home
hey dad look it is me Calvin
/giphy I would walk 500 miles!

An airplane if I have to go to the office. Otherwise, I walk a few steps to my desk.
taking the bus would increase my commute by over an hour, pass. just my own vehicle until the US decides public transit is worth anything

I walk down the stairs from my bed.
@tinamarie1974 I hate dangerous commutes.
@yakkoTDI I know, I white knuckle it the whole way!!!
Okay, who actually chose ‘hoverboard’??
I would like to be carried by stork like the image suggests
Don’t work but when I did I drove, sometime far sometimes close.
Work? Not anymore. I retired a year ago after working for 55 years.
